Photos | J Roddy Walston & The Automatic Band + Patton McGee @ Deep Cuts

I'm kind of ashamed to say I'd never stepped foot in Deep Cuts (Medford, MA) before last week. After a few abandoned plans, it took a rare J Roddy Walston show to get me to actually walk through the door. With a great vibe, great beer, great food, pinball machines and great music it may be my new home... err, favorite venue. Deep Cuts probably deserves a post all unto itself.
But back to the reason I was there in the first place. As a long-time—and fairly huge—J Roddy Walston fan, there was no way I was going to let this show pass me by. For those who have been fans for as long as I have, I can assure you that not a step has been lost.
J Roddy is still the most rock 'n roll you can get for your dollar.
Backed by The Automatic Band, the foursome ripped straight through about 2 hours worth of classics and new numbers that had every single soul in the 240-person venue dancing, singing and throwing their fists in the air.
Sign me up for this every single time it comes through town.
Opening the evening, Patton Magee (of The Nude Party) set a light-hearted tone with a solo performance that blended Mid-western charm with psychedelic flair. Playing songs from his latest release, it was easy to see how Patton may be filling venues on his own in the not too distant future.
